Christine Kyhn -  Principal Accompanist

 


ChristineBioPhotoThe West Valley Chorale is privileged to have Christine Kyhn as our Principal Accompanist. Christine is a pianist, organist, composer, and educator. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Music from California State University East Bay with an emphasis in piano and organ performance. In 1985, Christine earned the CAGO certificate from the American Guild of Organists. In addition, from UNC and CSULA she has earned the three levels of Orff-Schulwerk, an approach to elementary music education which incorporates music, language, and movement. She has been an active music educator in CA, CO, and AZ in public and private schools, churches, and in her own studio. In addition to her piano, organ, and teaching skills, Christine is a prolific composer and arranger. Her work has been performed in schools and churches in Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Oregon, and Washington. Christine has composed four musicals for children, which were performed in the San Jose, CA Performing Arts Magnet schools. A sacred musical for children based on the Bible story of David and Goliath called “The Giant” was performed in Denver, Colorado. Her vocal solo arrangement based on “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need” has been published with LifeWay Publishers.

 

Christine is accompanist for the Carolyn Eynon Singers and is the principle accompanist for Scottsdale Christian Academy under the direction of Tom Bookhout. She also serves as the Vocal Department Head at Rosie’s House, a music academy located in downtown Phoenix where she directs five choirs encompassing grades K-12. She currently is the interim organist at First United Methodist Church in Phoenix.

 

She is often called to play for choirs, churches, and schools in the Greater Phoenix area. Christine lives in Peoria, AZ with her husband, Peter Kyhn. They have three grown children and four amazing grandchildren.
